Hospital insurance

An insurance policy which is not essential but which is strongly recommended!

Hospitalization insurance is not compulsory, but is, however, an essential policy to avoid possible financial difficulties linked to hospitalization.

Before subscribing to such insurance, it is advisable to take the time to carefully check the different coverages offered and to differentiate between existing coverage plans. In fact, mutual insurance companies do not, for example, take into account certain medical costs. Hospitalization insurance is therefore appropriate to cover additional costs unless an exception is mentioned in the insurance policy.

There are many companies where employers offer their employees the benefit of such an insurance plan, but this case is far from general. For the liberal professions  and the self-employed, insurance must be chosen carefully to avoid paying high costs not considered in the guarantees, in the event of hospitalization.

Focus on the characteristics of hospitalization insurance:

  • Hospitalization insurance generally complements mutual insurance.

  • It is a policy intended exclusively to help the member to alleviate the high cost of medical expenses in the event of hospitalization.

  • The coverage offered is proportional to the amount of the premium paid.

  • Depending on the nature of the contract, an “ excess ”, also called “ own risk ”, is covered by the insured, but in the event of a claim, it is the insurance which pays most of the time, the entire invoice and subsequently asks the insured for reimbursement of his share.

The advantages of  hospitalization insurance :

  • Obtaining compensation in the event of a hospital stay.

  • Reimbursement of hospitalization costs by insurance or full coverage initially and invoicing of the “ franchise ” subsequently. Depending on the clauses of the contract, coverage may concern  pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization.
  • Free choice of hospital, treating doctors and room category. But you should know that a more expensive room implies payment by the insured of an additional cost if their coverage is not sufficient.
  • Reimbursement of ambulance and medical expenses stipulated in the policy.
  • Coverage, even in the event of serious illness.
  • Hospitalization insurance cannot be canceled lightly by the insurer.
  • Etc…
