Hospitalization Insurance

An insurance policy that is not essential but is highly recommended!

Hospitalization insurance is not mandatory, but it is an essential policy to avoid possible financial difficulties related to a hospitalization.

Before subscribing to such an insurance, it is advisable to take the time to check carefully the different coverages offered and to make the difference between the existing coverage plans. Indeed, some mutual insurance companies do not cover certain medical expenses. It is therefore the hospitalization insurance that is appropriate to cover the additional expenses, unless an exemption is mentioned in the insurance policy.

There are many companies where employers offer their employees such an insurance package, but this is far from being the case everywhere. For liberal professions and self-employed people, the insurance must be chosen with care to avoid paying high costs not considered in the guarantees, in case of hospitalization.

Zoom on the characteristics of the hospitalization insurance:

  • Hospitalization insurance is usually a complement to a mutual insurance company.
  • It is a policy designed exclusively to help the member alleviate the high cost of medical expenses in the event of hospitalization.
  • The coverage offered is proportional to the amount of the premium paid.
  • Depending on the nature of the contract, a “deductible”, also known as “own risk”, is paid by the insured, but in the event of a claim, the insurance company usually pays the entire bill and then asks the insured for reimbursement of its share.

The advantages of a hospitalization insurance :

  • Obtaining an indemnity in case of hospital stay.
  • Reimbursement of hospitalization costs by the insurance company or full coverage initially and
  • billing of the “deductible” thereafter. Depending on the terms of the contract, the coverage can be
  • for pre-hospitalization and post-hospitalization.
  • You are free to choose the hospital, the attending physicians and the room category. But it is
  • important to know that a more expensive room implies the payment by the insured of an additional cost if his coverage is not sufficient.
  • Reimbursement of ambulance and medical expenses stipulated in the policy.
  • Coverage even in case of serious illnesses.
  • Hospitalization insurance cannot be terminated lightly by the insurer.
